Countrywide, it appears that parliamentarians are struggling to meet the ever growing expectations of citizens. Citizens hold parliamentarians to account principally for the services that they are able to deliver outside parliament, not for their law-making role or their ability to oversee the Executive.
On 9th March, 2019 while addressing the residents of Mbitini area, Mbitini Mixed secondary school, Kitui Rural, Hon David Mwalika,the area MP, stated every resident of the area can testify what he has already done.
As a leader, “I’ve to play my role and my “Constituency services ” to serve and represent the interests of my constituents,” Mwalika emphasized.
Speaking during the fundraising for construction, development and improvement of Mbitini Secondary school in Mbitini on Saturday , March 9, Mwalika said an overview of communities across the county indicated something was missing.He pointed out that the gap was largely contributed by reduced roles and failure of the elected leaders in running of developments of schools and other public utilities which they they had promised to the residents of Mbitini area in their manifestos before elections.
“When we look at our societies, communities and areas today, it is evident that there is something missing. We need to go back to when the leaders played an important role in our communities in implementing what they had promised to their respective residents before elections ,” Mwalika stated.
Mwalika asked leaders to shun petty politics and focus on development matters. He condemned politicians for politicizing and disillusioning people of Mbitini area. He asked leaders to dedicate their time on activities that can transform the lives of Kitui residents noting that politics will have its chance.
Others leaders Present included Kitui Senator Hon. Enoch kiio, and Hon. irene kasalu, women representative kitui County.
Kitui County women representative, advised students to embrace hard work and discipline, saying the two virtues are key ingredients for success. While addressing Mbitini residents, Irene, emphasized both the county’s and the country’s future and social-economic development depended on the youth. Kasalu urged them to be focused in their lives. Her statement were further reinforced by hon. Mwalika.
