Governor Charity Ngilu today launched the bursaries programme kitty for needy learners from disadvantaged families in the county.
Speaking at Mutha town in Kitui South Sub county, the Governor said her government was keen to support learners and impact the county to the village level to ensure an enhanced access to education and increase enrolment in schools within the county.
She pointed out a total of 17,672 beneficiaries in the 2017/2018 Financial Year at a cost of sh121,193,698 and additional 7, 763 learners in the 2018/19FY to benefit at a cost of sh45,000,000 totaling sh.166,193,698.
“We are targeting needy students to ensure they do not drop out of school due to lack of fees”. She added.
Ngilu further said the kitty will help in retaining students from needy backgrounds in schools.
