The ongoing heated debate about constitutional amendments through a referendum has opened up an opportunity for leaders to express their views .As some have backed the call for a referendum, others have totally rejected the proposal over various reasons.
However, a section of leaders has expressed their willingness for the constitutional changes to balance the burning concerns.
The latest to back the call for a referendum is Kitui County Governor H.E Charity Ngilu who has revealed the need to revise the constitutional framework.
Speaking on Friday in Mwingi Resource Centre during the conferment of Mwingi Town to a municipality, Ngilu briefed the attending residents on the need for constitutional amendment through a popular vote so as to harmonize the citizens representation.
The Governor lamented over the underrepresentation of Makueni, Kitui and Machakos Counties to the national government, pointing a finger of blame to the constitution’s poor representation framework.
She added that as the leaders who supported the adoption of a new constitution back in 2010, they had agreed to pass the proposed constitution unanimously and later amend some sections to satisfy the needs of the citizens.
